Anna Quindlen Pushes For a Clinton/Obama Ticket

July 16th, 2007

In Newsweeks society section.

I have noticed a lot of people, especially in the left and Hollywood wing of the Democratic Party are hoping for such a ticket. I personally am not too convinced it will work. I think a Northern/Southern (or Midwest) strategy is still the best for a Democratic ticket. The problem with the last one was that Kerry was a little too northern and Edwards might have a bit of a drawl but politically he isn’t southern at all. (Also you don’t pick someone who was pretty much guaranteed of losing their Senate seat if they ran in the hope of picking up their state or those surrounding them in an election).

In my own opinion Hillary is better served by someone like Evan Bayh. Also to address the big giant pink elephant in the room America might me ready for a white woman and potentially a black man on their own for an election, together I am not so sure. Everyone when polled responds that they would vote for almost anyone, in practice we will see.

A Hillary/Obama would be heavy on fundraising and Internet buzz and potentially light on votes counted.

Steve Huntley Agrees Its Time to Whittle Down the Fields

July 16th, 2007

I’ve been saying it for months now, Clinton & Edwards were caught saying it near an open mic and Steve Huntley writes Keep the Wannabes Out. Lets face facts folks, there are too many candidates and when the debates resume we will be treated to several more hours of television as Mike Gravel & Ron Paul ramble on.

My Take on the Clinton/Obama Numbers

July 15th, 2007

Here is my quick set of impressions:

1) It is hard to judge who stole who’s spotlight, it all depends on how reporters judge it. You can easily look and say “wow, the amount Obama has been able to raise is enormous and wonderful and shows his Internet strength and appeal to new voters and some heavy hitters in the Dem elite etc. and he will shakedown Clinton.

You can also argue that the steam was taken out of Obama. Not only is Clinton pretty much matched up for the primary money, she has $12 Million in the bank for the general election. She is leading in all polls, she is leading in the states, she has a wide group of endorsements and a national campaign network built up over the last thirty years.

Senator Hillary Clinton will have $33 Million cash on hand in the primaries and brought in over $5 Million for the General Election.

This puts her only $1 Million short of Barack Obama for primary spending and up to $12.6 million for the general election, Obama has about $2 Million for the general.
