Not much is happening right now in the presidential race, just the typical back and forth so I am taking this saturday to relax. For those who don’t know last weekend was a bit hectic in the health department. A very bad infection left me passed out after hitting a coffee table on the way down and in the hospital. JOY! But luckily I am back though I still cannot hear out of one ear very well and am quite dizzy.
Today I am just sitting around. I had some celery and peanut butter, yum, now I am reading Jim Cramer’s Real Money: Sane Investing in an Insane World
y and relaxing. If any breaking news occurs I will be there, otherwise I am going to enjoy the day!

I don’t think anyone has mentioned this yet but when MSNBC was putting together tonight’s debate did they not notice they would be running it against both the Michigan primary returns, kind of a big news moment, AND the return of American Idol?
Now granted these debates haven’t exactly been ratings busters but it seems like a little more consideration could have gone into this. After months of no regular television programming my TiVo is actually full tonight with new shows, which means I will be watching the debate on the small TV in the bedroom while I actually spend my time thinking about The Biggest Loser and Simon Cowell.
Just thinking you might want to put this on at a time when people will actually watch it.

Mitt Romney has spent over $2 million on advertising in Michigan nearly three times as much as John McCain according to the Michigan Campaign Finance Network.
Breakdown by Market:
Detroit

McCain: $358,074
Huckabee: $271,085Grand Rapids / Kalamazoo
Romney: $488,590
McCain: $157,175
Huckabee: $87,680Lansing
Romney: $48,380
McCain: $113,885
Huckabee: $45,905Flint / Tri-Cities
Romney: $220,385
McCain: $49,630
Huckabee: $45,230Traverse City / Alpena
Romney: $192,012
McCain: $65,146

The spending follows a trend for Romney who outspent his opponents in Iowa and New Hampshire. Romney went on to lose both of those states but is hoping to pull a win in Michigan where his father was Governor.

I am as guilty as anyone else in the media or blogosphere when it comes to New Hampshire. I assumed, like everyone assumed, because everyone assumed, helped others assume, that Barack Obama was going to run away with the win and because of that, we were witnessing the potential end of the Clinton campaign. What were we all thinking? (The same thing the Clinton campaign was, they though they would lose too!)
The truth is, polling often works and works well. There is almost no better way of finding out what people will do than asking them. However polling is not perfect, people lie, questions are asked in weird ways or at the wrong moments, but most importantly our “interpretations” of polling are often what get the nation into trouble, especially when everyone agrees on something without really looking into it.
