From ABC News:

“There’s no question that John McCain has won the nomination. He’s going to be our nominee for president,” said Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour.

“I think it’s time to remove the presumptive label before nominee,” added Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue.

In addition to personally backing McCain at a Monday press conference held in Washington, D.C., Barbour and Perdue announced that McCain has also picked up the support of Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Alabama Gov. Bob Riley, North Dakota Gov. John Hoeven, and Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle.

Mitt Romney to Endorse John McCain Today

February 14th, 2008

From the AP:

Republican campaign dropout Mitt Romney agreed Thursday to endorse Sen. John McCain for the party’s presidential nomination and ask his national convention delegates to swing behind the party front-runner, according to officials familiar with the decision.
Romney collected 280 delegates during his run through the early primaries and caucuses, more than enough to put McCain over the 1,191 needed to clinch the nomination.

The officials who disclosed Romney’s plans did so on condition of anonymity because the formal announcement is expected later in the day.

Romney’s decision marked a harmonious end to an occasionally contentious struggle between the two men over the party’s presidential nod. They criticized one another in television ads in state after state, a clash that effectively ended on Feb. 5, when McCain won a string of big-state primaries from coast to coast.

Officials said the former Massachusetts governor made his decision to back McCain earlier in the day, citing a desire to help the Arizona senator wrap up the nomination before too much more time passed.

Edwards Weighing Clinton Endorsement

February 13th, 2008

ABC News is reporting that John Edwards is seriously considering an endorsement of Senator Hillary Clinton. He met with Clinton secretly recently and was supposed to meet with Obama on Monday but that meeting was cancelled at the last minute.

As he weighs a possible endorsement in the Democratic race, former Sen. John Edwards is as split as the party he once hoped to lead — and is seriously considering supporting Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, despite the sharp criticism he leveled at her on the campaign trail, according to former aides and advisers.

n deciding between his one-time rivals, Edwards appears deeply divided. Several former advisers likened his thought process to a heart-versus-head split — with his heart favoring Sen. Barack Obama’s strong message of change, and his head attracted to Clinton’s tested nature and commitment to tough fights.

Though he sometimes aligned himself with Obama — and against Clinton — as a candidate, several Edwards campaign insiders say the former senator began to sour on Obama toward the end of his own campaign, and ultimately left the race questioning whether Obama had the toughness needed to prevail in a presidential race.

Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire Endorses Barack Obama

February 8th, 2008

Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire has endorsed Barack Obama.

“I gave it a lot of thought and it was a very difficult decision because I think Democrats and the nation are very blessed to have two outstanding candidates, both of whom would make a great president.”

“Back when I was 18 years old, if anyone had told me in my lifetime we would have a choice between the first woman president and the first African American, I would have laughed out loud,” she said. “They are both breaking the glass ceiling if you will.”

“He is leading us toward a positive feeling of hope in our country and I love seeing that happen,” she said. “I believe the nation faces significant challenges domestically and internationally and Obama is the person who has the ability to reach across artificial divides and move our national forward. Barack is that kind of leader.”

James Dobson To Endorse Mike Huckabee

February 7th, 2008

From the Associated Press:

James Dobson, one of the nation’s most prominent evangelical Christian leaders, is about to endorse former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, The Associated Press has learned.

Dobson, founder of Colorado Springs, Colo.-based Focus on the Family, talked to the GOP presidential hopeful Thursday and later was to release a statement explaining his choice, said Gary Schneeberger, a spokesman for Dobson.

Huckabee had long sought Dobson’s endorsement, believing he is the best fit to advance Dobson’s conservative, moral worldview.

Until now, Dobson had never endorsed a GOP presidential hopeful during the primary campaign. But he ruled out front-runner John McCain in a blistering commentary on Super Tuesday, and on Thursday the fight for the GOP nomination narrowed to a two-man race between McCain and Huckabee, who is far behind in the delegate count but pledged to fight on. Mitt Romney, a third hopeful trying to claim the conservative label, dropped out of the race Thursday.

Dobson had actually ruled out McCain long ago saying he wouldn’t vote for the Senator under any circumstances in January of 2007.

Major endorsement for Huckabee but in reality it seems more like an anti-endorsement for McCain and you have to wonder, will it make a difference at this point?

Washington Times Suggests Kennedy Endorsement Did Little

February 5th, 2008

Finally, after all this time of hearing about the juggernaut, onslaught, race changing endorsement of Ted Kennedy the Washington Times has an article up mirroring my own thoughts. New polling suggests the endorsement did very little with actually moving voters.

Now let me qualify this. One I am not trusting a lot of the polling coming out over the weekend and we won’t truly know until later tonight whether or not the Kennedy helped in turning the tide for Obama. With that said, I will be looking at Mass. If Obama does better in Kennedy’s home state, where he has also been endorsed by the Governor and the other US Senator John Kerry, then something amazing happened with the endorsement. Also if Obama does very well with hispanic voters in California, again we may have evidence of a plus effect.

Beyond that, I seriously don’t think it did much but we will see.

Meanwhile for an alternative view check out Washington Post.
