Talk Back to John McCain

June 6th, 2007

Hello there. I got this through e-mail yesterday and honestly just figured it was spam. However ABC News called me this morning to see if I was going to participate and to ask me to share. So being the giant shill I am, here goes :)

Dear Sen. McCain (An Open Letter From the ElectionGeek)

June 6th, 2007

After watching the last few debates I want to say something to you. Please stop saying “My friends” before every sentence.

One of the most difficult things you need to overcome in this election is age. In 2000 for some reason the press painted you out to be a “maverick” ready to take on Washington. Lets face facts, you were old then and frankly after several decades between the House and Senate you were Washington. Still that was your reputation and you used it well.

But John, if I can call you John, this isn’t Tammany Hall and you aren’t standing on an actual soapbox trying to get union men to swing your way. We have elections on computers now, you should get with the program.

I offered some great advice early on in the campaign to you under the idea of “Don’t Make Your Web Site in Black & White”. I doubt I was the one you listened to but someone else must have said something because you wised up and added blue and red to the thing. Now I really think you should listen to this bit too. Please, please, please discontinue opening every one of your sentences with “my friends”.

3rd Republican Debate - Thoughts

June 5th, 2007

- CNN Technical problems continue. They buzzed John McCain a second into his opening. The thing I don’t understand is that there aren’t supposed to be any buzzers used.

- Buzzer is apparently going to go off throughout.

- Two applause lines thus far. One when McCain attacked Hillary Clinton “I did not refer to the Balkins as President Clinton’s War” and one when Ron Paul said we should get out of Iraq immediately.

- Rudy likes to remind everyone he watched the Democratic debate.

7:38 - Lightning striking buzzing/microphones not working gave Rudy a great joke. Was talking about abortion, the lightning struck and he was able to play it as god striking down… good times. CNN stinks at setting this stuff up.
- Wolf Blizter said there is lightning outside, so thats the buzzer sound or…?

7:22 - Immigration, let the McCain pile on begin.

7:25 - Romney is asked about McCain’s recent jabs. “He is my friend, I am not going to turn this into a personal issue”.

McCain makes a joke that no one seemed to understand. “Silent & Defacto Amnesty” if we do nothing. Likes to say “my friends” repeatedly.

AWESOME moment. “If anyone has any other ideas, I am ready to hear them” every other candidate raised their hands and started saying “I do, right here, I do”

7:27 - Giuliani rips the Senate bill “doesn’t provide for figuring out who left the country, how can we figure out who is here if we don’t know who left?”

7:30 - Duncan Hunter says Congress has a “case of the slows”. Now THAT is a campaign slogan.

7:34 - English the official language of the U.S? Nobody disagrees.McCain responds but I think he wasn’t paying attention to the question.

CNN Camera people need to learn how to not be seen.

8:00 - Not one candidate would change the policy of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell

How would you use George W. Bush in your admin?

Tommy Thompson - “I certainly wouldn’t send him to the United Nations.”

Tancredo - Blasts the President. Would basically tell him to get the heck out and not come back.

2nd Half ———————————

Why in the heck can CNN have live reports from Jerusalem when bombs are flying or in Darfur where there is no electricity and things run smooth but these two debates have been filled with technical problems?

- McCain walked up to a woman who lost her brother, admitted we made mistakes, admitted some sacrifices were unnecessary because of the management but said we have a good general on the ground and asked for support.

- Ron Paul is crazy and Blitzer tried to start the smackdown again. Giuliani stands up too and ignores Paul. “People can only embrace democracy when they have an ordinary existence.” (have to check that quote)

- Now EVERYBODY is standing up. OK Tancredo is sitting and will hopefully stop this standing wave of insubordinate behavior. NOPE Giuliani is standing.

- Mitt Romney is asked why he is for making English the national language but makes his Web site & ads available in Spanish. “I Love Immigrants”… no that actually was his answer.

- Tancredo apparently called Miami “a third world country” recently. Would not put anything in Spanish.

- The candidates ALL REALLY want to talk about immigration.
