Debate Ratings Slightly Down

July 24th, 2007

The CNN/YouTube debate saw a slight drop in ratings down to 2.3 million viewers from its last debate which brought in 2.8 million according to the Associated Press.

CNN noted it did attract a young audience of 18-34 year-olds totaling 407,000 in viewer-ship and 45 million pageviews on the Web site. Though page-views don’t represent unique visitors and I did not see that number given in the article or anywhere else I looked.

Lowering the Debate For Ratings

July 24th, 2007

Well the YouTube revolution has made it into the Main Stream Media as Chris Matthews has on Obama Girl, Hot4Hill & Giuliani Girl. Democracy will never be the same!

Seriously I am watching this right now and I have to ask, what is going on in this country? If this is what it takes to get young people to vote, is it worth it? This is really embarrassing, I feel embarrassed for Chris Matthews.

Campaign Spouses Denied?

July 24th, 2007

The House of Representatives has passed a bill banning the payment of candidates spouses who work on the campaign trail. From the Washington Post:

In the latest ripple of an ethics spat gripping Congress, the House yesterday passed a bipartisan bill that bans lawmakers from paying their spouses for campaign work.

The measure, passed on a voice vote, was sponsored by Reps. Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.) and Michael N. Castle (R-Del.). It would not bar other family members from working on a lawmaker’s campaign but would require disclosure.

The vote follows a study released last month by the liberal-leaning watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington that found that nearly 100 chairmen and ranking minority members of House committees used their roles to benefit their families, including employing spouses and other kin for campaign or consulting work.

The bill has to pass and be reconciled with the Senate.
