Is Bill Really A Problem?

January 22nd, 2008

A post at Politico mirrors my own thoughts about the recent rash of Bill Clinton’s “off script” moments. The conclusion? Despite all of the MSM reports that Clinton is damaging his legacy, hurting his wife’s chances and diving the electorate, I think they work. Not only do I think they work, I don’t think they are so “off script”.

Since this rash began Clinton has won two primaries, recovered from a media onslaught against her and seems to be holding her lead in many polls. She seems poised to take NY and a slew of other states and though many would hate to admit it, the sudden turn against the Clinton’s from the black community the Senator is holding support with registered Democrats, Hispanics, whites and women.

The best supporting evidence though came in last nights Myrtle Beach debate. Barack Obama was off his message of “hope” and “new politics” and on the attack. He also seemed off his game while he complained about attacks from both Clinton’s.

So my question is, how is Bill hurting?

If we had seen a loss in New Hampshire and Nevada, I would have bought it. We didn’t and for all of the reports of him speaking out of turn at the disgust of Hillary campaign heads it is interesting that Bill has been left alone in South Carolina as the only line of defense, along with their daughter, against Obama. Does that sound like the decision a candidate who wasn’t happy with the results would make?

Does Bill Clinton risk a lot? Of course, as a former president and a favorite among the party he could risk standing if he attacks too much or too hard a rising star of the party. Would he really go to far? With Bill Clinton anything is possible. Clinton continues to defy expectations and logic and he could say or do something so off message or simply offensive that he could destroy his wives chances.

With that said it seems like, for now, the Clinton campaign isn’t too worried and with the results thus far they probably shouldn’t be.

They, I mean Hillary, may very well win the Democratic candidacy but I for one, someone who used to be a full-on Clinton supporter even when the going got tough, have lost a lot of respect for the Clintons and would have to think long and hard before voting for Hillary in the general election. I think they are hurting the Democratic party in the long run.

Sadly, I do think that the Clintons are getting into Obama’s head. I think that up until now he has been trying to run a positive campaign but is now being dragged into the mud by the Clintons. Unfortunately, he is now having to play it their way, which is dirty, and he’s not used to this and it shows. Like I said before, I was a huge Clinton supporter, but when I see them trying to take a good man down in this manner it makes me wonder if my Republican parents were right about the Clintons all along…

I just want to add that I’m not naive and know that all politicians will try to put their votes and history in the most positive light, and cherry pick a bit, but to me it shows a lot about Obama’s character that he hasn’t brought up any of the Travelgate issues, Vince Foster, etc., that I can guarantee will be brought up all over again if Hillary wins the nomination.

    Hey Mammamia thanks for commenting.

The one thing I will add to play devils advocate is this. I can understand your concern about the Clinton’s being the ones who are attacking and changing the debate. With that said though, do you think its possible they might also be providing a service?

Obama has been untested in campaigning whereas John Edwards and Clinton have both faced tuff campaigns with lots shot at them before. In a general election the opposition will no doubt be much worse to Obama.

Obviously the Clintons are doing this for their own gain. With that said it is doubtful a general election campaign would have been framed with “hope and change” and no opposition. If Obama becomes a better campaigner, a more tested fighter, wouldn’t that help him in a general?

If Hilary Clinton gets the nomination, I and many other Democrats I know and influence will vote Republican and the hunger and greed of the Bill Clintons and Hilary Clintons and their so-called black friends like Andrew Young etc will stay in oblivion.

Barack Obama is the best chance for a country that has practiced slavery for over 200 years to be the first US President of African origins where many slaves who built this country came from and there are African-American voters do not seem to understand people who are as electable, intelligent, talented and charismatic like Barack Obama come maybe once in a generation or two.

To make it worse, you have a former President jumping and stopping history from happening. Is Bill Clinton and the whites who have not decided to support Obama’s brilliance and pioneering spirit and capability not amongst the same type who who used to think and maybe they are still thinkin that an African American football player is not capable of being a quarterback or a football coach and the present picture is evident that they were and are still wrong?

Bill Clinton, if he really supported the support of minorities he woul take a neautral seat in this campaign and devote his rhetorics and energy to solving other problems of the world like Jimmy Carter does. You have never seen senior George Bush for his son George W. Bush.
A shame to the Clintons and those who support the jabs Bill is giving against Obama in the primary elections.

So Bill Clinton is that corrupt. No wonder he was impeached.

If Rev Martin Luther King Jr came back to life today as a resurrection, and he started running for President of the USA I betch you all the money I have in the bank Bill Clinton would throw jabs at Martic Luther King Jr.

Americans who are fair and just, pleaase do not be fooled. It is all about greed. The only thing that would bring a former President to campaign a man who can change America instead of waiting for another 100 years is greedy. The Clintons are only interested in grabbing from other people. They don’t rely care about what Obama’s messages are, they are there to tear this Godsend son that will unite this country as never done before for their own. The Clintons are all those who are status quo are afraid of a smart man who will emancipate this country. Please note that Obama is very intelligent. And we need to save America.

If Hilary Clinton is nominated as the Democratic candidate I will vote Republican and I will urge everybody on my website to vote Republicans so that Democrats and the African Americans who do not know this is the Great Moment to change hisory for the better by electing Barack Obama, will stay in their chains of slavery and the back seat of bus for another 100 years.

Obama is going to win the Presidency of the USA. But any corrupt tricks to detour that will send this country years worse than those years before civil rights movement. You get a chance and why do you let thieves take the gold from your hands. The Bill Clinton gestures of stepping in to throw attacks at Obama because he wants to defend his wife is just GREED. And greed will not benefit the US in the long run, will kill the Democratic Party.

Thank you Jesus, thank you Lord, for bring out Barack Obama. Thank you to those who support Obama. We are making changes.

    Electiongeek,
I do think that it is good for Obama to get a taste of what the Republicans will throw at him but I would prefer to see the mudslinging coming from the Republicans candidates themselves and not from the former President and first lady who are supposed to lend some dignity and perceived credibility.

Also, when Obama receives the nomination and the Republicans begin their attacks, Obama will have the whole Democratic party standing behind him and not the fractured party that is showing itself in these days.
I’m sure that the Republicans are all rooting for Hillary to become the nomination as it is a sure bet they will win that race.
