Two party frontrunners vie for support in a highly contested brokered political convention, sound familiar? Throw in a dying President and you have 1964’s The Best Man. Intellectual William Russell (Henry Fonda) and down-to-earth Joe Cantwell (Cliff Robertson) are the party frontrunners racing to pick up last minute endorsements while they weigh the prospect of using personal attacks to sway delegates and crush the others chances.

Gore Vidal wrote the screenplay based on his play of the same name. Not only a great film the movie could be more relevant to our time as ever in this election year.

Unfortunetly the movie is not available on DVD yet, just videotape, however it has been playing on Turner Classic Movies.
