Clinton Turns to Sarcasm
February 24th, 2008
Discussing Barack Obama Clinton said:
“Let’s just get everybody together. Let’s get unified. The sky will open, the light will come down, celestial choirs will be singing and everyone will know we should do the right thing and the world will be perfect. Maybe I’ve just lived a little long, but I have no illusions about how hard this is going to be. You are not going to wave a magic wand and have the special interests disappear.”
In Ohio Clinton said:
“I’m not asking you to take a leap of faith on me. I’m asking you to look at the record.â€
Will it work? Probably not, but it joins the growing skepticism toward what some see as cult-like reliance on massive crowds. Whether you call it Obamaphilia or the work of an experience provider, Obama’s stock phrases like we are the change that we seek sound are sounding more like marketing buzzwords of a spiritual advisor than the substantive arguments of a grounded politician.
Will it work for Clinton to hit Obama on this? At this point, probably not, but it is probably where she should have started a long while ago.
