Obama Campaign Turns Down a Blogger

June 21st, 2007

Jerid over at Buckeye State has a story about being turned away from a Senator Barack Obama “closed from press” event after revealing he was a blogger. It is nice that the Obama camp thinks of bloggers as something resembling journalists, but as Jerid notes perhaps not the best campaign strategy as the writer is left leaning and undoubtedly would have come out with a glowing review.

Richardson Caught Flip-Flopping & Site Scrubbing

June 21st, 2007

According to Political Wire he did.

Richardson turned from his brand of “nice guy, no attack” politics to, well, attacking his Democratic opponents this week by taking an Iraq position as far out as possible. The problem? While attacking the other candidates position he forgot that he himself once held similar beliefs and so his staff began working hard to white wash any and all references to said position off his site.

Check out the evidence from the New Republic.

Cue Google cache.

Geek Corner - Passports

June 20th, 2007

Ok this is just unadulterated opinion here but I really felt like writing about this topic and in many ways it does relate to the election.

If you haven’t been following this issue, after 9/11 many new rules and regulations were considered in the United States. Chief among them was that Americans traveling to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean etc. must have passports. As someone who lived a good chunk of his life along the Canadian/U.S. border I can vouch for the fact that before 9/11 getting gas was more difficult a choir than getting across the border. There used to be a few bridges around Niagara Falls where you could almost drive right past customs without any reprecussions they were so lax. (Michael Moore even wrote about one in a book encouraging illegal immigrants to get into the U.S. A fact that if you are a conservative Republican should further endear you to Michael Moore).

Today its a lot more difficult, but not because of the passports.

Speaking of Bloomberg Coverage

June 20th, 2007

If you visit HuffingtonPost today the speculation train just keeps on moving!

Huffington Post Goes Bloomberg Crazy

This will undoubtedly continue until Al Gore wears a red, white & blue tie and it shifts to him. Then if Newt Gingrich salutes the flag we can expect coverage of him and then if John Kerry votes for a bill before not voting for a bill we can speculate on him for awhile.

WORD TO THE MEDIA - CALM DOWN

Geek Corner - The One Where Chris Matthews Says SH$%

June 20th, 2007

Last night was interesting for news coverage.

When I got home last night MSNBC was covering Hillary Clinton very heavily. Then out of nowhere Bloomberg announced he was leaving the GOP and it turned into wall-to-wall coverage of that event. Seriously Chris Matthews went into full speculation mode. He was so into it that he let out a swearword on air while he was, at least it looked like he was, badgering everyone in the studio saying things were moving too fast, the news was breaking and they were puting Sh%t on the air. Then he came back and apologized.

The funny thing about it? The breaking news was a guy leaving his party and the racing they were doing was to have as many people who seemed to have no idea what it actually meant running as fast as they could to speculate on the subject. Meanwhile today Bloomberg said, as he continually has, he is not a candidate, will serve out his term as mayor and “I think they are wasting their time. I am not a candidate”. But Matthews & MSNBC would have had you believing the man announced, dropped $500 million into a campaign and had lawn signs at the printer that very moment.
