I was on the elliptical at the gym tonight when Former Senator and 2008 Presidential candidate John Edwards appeared on the television. Oddly enough it was on ESPN. Edwards and family were attending the Penn vs UNC game and seeing as how Penn was getting clobbered at the time the camera kept turning to Edwards.

Unfortunately the closed caption wasn’t on so I had no idea what was being said about him or during the brief interview they did in the stands. I will say from the pictures he didn’t seem like the most enthusiastic spectator. Also there was a good four minutes of video displaying one of Edward’s sons repeatedly whacking the former Senator in the head with a stuffed animal.

Edward sat stoic and unreactive while being pummeled with the blue doll but frankly as I pumped off calories I kind of wanted him to turn around and slap the kid across the head. No offense to the kid, I am just a firm believer in strict parenting.

Still it was good to see the progressive candidate being out with the people. It probably would have been better to hit up a football game or NASCAR race to really connect with the average Joe instead of COLLEGE Basketball, but hey, it was a try and was much more effective in my opinion than Senator Barack Obama taping an event for the NFL rather then heading out to a game.
