Way Behind
January 29th, 2007
Incase you couldn’t guess, running a Web site about an ever changing topic isn’t the easiest thing for one person to do. Especially when it isn’t his full-time job. I am, to confess, a bit swamped. But I am working on catching up.
In the meantime I thought I would just wrap-up the story of my visit to D.C. There were several protesters from this weekends peace rally on the National Mall on my plane ride back to Rochester, NY. They were talking about their experience, not directly to me but I overheard.
A part of me wanted to ask them why they would hold a rally on a Saturday, when Congress wasn’t in session but I will say the rally did get a lot of media attention even though no one else was really around to see it in person. Hell I was in town and I didn’t take the time to go out and see it either. Not that I doubt their sincerity, but I figure if you are going to protest, make it meaningful. Stop traffic, force legislators to see you in person, make some noise.
The temperature was on average fifty degrees warmer in D.C. which meant I left 50 degree weather for 30 degree weather. The flight out of nations capitol city was beautiful. I watched the White House, Washington Monument, Capitol and Pentagon slowly fade from my view in the clear skies.
I then closed my window and read a few chapters of David David Mccullough’s wonderful book 1776. When I opened the window again I was treated to a different sight. Miles upon miles of clouds over which the plane flew. Grey, dark, ugly clouds that never disappeared. Once we flew threw them all that was left was grey and snow. Not the greatest sight ever, but it is home.
So that was my weekend. Tonight I plan on catching up with the Election news.
